Internet Censorship Two Case Studies: Australia and the United States E
I. Introduction Internet censorship laws started appearing around the world in 1995. These laws covered content already illegal in existing laws for non-internet content, as well as for content that is not suitable for minors. Worldwide, four different approaches were taken with internet censorship. 1) The government encouraged user self-regulation, and voluntary use of content filters by their citizens. 2) Laws were implemented that penalized content providers who made censored material available online. 3) Some governments instituted country wide blocking of censored material. 4) The most restrictive censorship implemented by some governments was complete blocking or restrictive access to the internet. 1 This paper will show whether the ethics of censoring internet content depends on the culture and laws of the country. I personally believe that internet censorship is not ethical and internet users should decide for themselves what they can and cannot see. This paper will prove the ethical implications of internet censorship through two case studies: the United States' Communications Decency Act, and Australia's Broadcasting Services Amendment (Online Services) Act 1999. The United States and Australia have both taken two different approaches to internet censorship. However, both countries started out with similar censorship laws. The United States in 1996 passed the Communications Decency Act. This law was later found to be unconstitutional and in violation of first amendment rights to freedom of speech. The US currently has no internet censorship laws. The Australian government uses the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Online Services) Act 1999 to censor internet traffic t o this day. II. LGBT
A social movement is a reform concept that characterizes individual collective effort with some degree of organization or community. This move is at least partially outside the normal political process and institutions, to bring about societal change. In the realm of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender rights, activists have played a vital role in reshaping the societal norms, culture and politics. The LGBT are different and unique persons in the world and exhibit an exemplary self-confidence. A common purpose and the goal of the LGBT, in the society is promoting equity the minority. However, some individuals have also focused in building and nurturing LGBT community. They also work towards promoting social liberation for the broader society from sexual stigmatization and discrimination. The LGBT movement in the world today, constitute of a wide rang of political activism and cultural activity. They therefore strategically adopt lobbying, street demonstrations, community participation and social grouping to push for their agenda. The LGBT communities have a universal way of identity. Symbols and art of social movement provide meaning, express social and political solidarity with a particular identity. The symbol mostly used by the LGBT community particularly during the 1980-19990 is the pink triangle among others. The pink triangle for example was mostly used by the Nazi community in Germany to label homosexual and lesbianism. The LGBT movementsââ¬â¢ advocates for unique way of lifestyle defined by the world as ââ¬Å"not normalâ⬠Consequently, people with such preferences faces a mixed reaction from the normative section of the community. The LGBT community has therefore continually faced opposing both from individuals and organizations. It is widely believed that people with negative attitude towards lesbians and gays are more likely to be male, politically conservatives, religious and older persons who particularly have little personal contact with openly gay individuals and supports the traditional roles. Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender lifestyle violates the principles of God on sexuality. The true sexual identity acceptable by God is the sexual union a man and a woman. Other forms of sexual relation are evil and therefore unacceptable before God and humanity. Culturally the actions of the LGBT community are strongly condemned. Their sexual relation is termed as ââ¬Å"not normalâ⬠and therefore adoption of such sexual preferences tend to alter the system of values defined by the strict spirit of culture. Thus the acts of LGBT go against the cultural law concept of morality. The LGBT is therefore an Politics establishes structures that promote healthy living in the society. In fact, the spirit and law of politics has its root from religious and cultural principles. à For many years government institutions have not appreciated the rights and freedoms of the LGBT individuals. This is partly because LGBT sexual relation violates the principles of political morality. LGBT is a group of normal people and therefore deserve democratic space consideration. They should be granted the right and freedom of assembly and expression. However, LG BT community appreciate that they are swimming against the wave of normativity. Thus stigmatizations and discrimination will still continue. In response to the social; seclusion and moral uncertainty that surrounds the LGBT community, my consciousness, culture and faith will not allow me to identify with the LGBT community. I therefore will not accept to wear the identification pin. Reference Goodwin J. and James M.J, ââ¬Å" The Gay Liberation Movements.â⬠In the social Movement Reader: Cases and Concept

Persuasive Speaking Outline Essay
Introduction: Why same sex couples should be allowed to get married â⬠¢America is a nation of peace and equality â⬠¢The definition of marriage excludes the union of same sex couples â⬠¢Gays have family values too Body: Studies. Statistics. Benefits â⬠¢Sixteen countries allow same-sex couples to marry â⬠¢Legalization of same sex marriage increases with the higher levels of education. â⬠¢54% of Americans support marriage equality Conclusion: What should we do? â⬠¢Same sex couples should be treated equally â⬠¢We should have an open mind, big heart and brain Whatââ¬â¢s the reason people get married for? So let me show you a short video first: America is a nation of peace and equality, however there have always been minority groups restricted from these basic rights. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a contractual relationship recognized byà law. The definition excludes the union of same sex couples. Gays have been fighting for rights since the 1960ââ¬â¢s, maybe even before then, and yet today. So banning same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. Making this issue illegal is also a form of discrimination. Nobody likes feeling inferior, or like they a below standards, by making sex marriage illegal you are making people who are attracted to the same sex feel and seem inferior to others. Homosexuality is not a conscious choice; itââ¬â¢s something they are born with. You may not think about it, but gays have family values too. They have many strong family benefits that some straight marriages lack, such as being more open-minded and accepting. Gay couples have even been proven to have stronger emotional bonds than straight couples. And since 2 people of the same sex canââ¬â¢t reproduce on their own, child adoption rates would increase. Strong family benefits and strong emotional bonds are essential to long-lasting relationships and marriages. As of 9 May 2014, sixteen countries (Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark,[nb 1] France, Iceland, Netherlands,[nb 2] New Zealand,[nb 3] Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom,[nb 4] Uruguay) and several sub-national jurisdictions (parts of Mexico and the United States) allow same-sex couples to marry. Studies conducted in several countries indicate the support for the legalization of same sex marriage increases with the higher levels of education and a very strong support of young people in todays society. Additionally, polls show that there is rising support for same sex marriage across all races, ethinicities, ages, religion and socioeconomics. A majority of todays society doesnââ¬â¢t quite understand the concept of gay marriage. Even though 54% of Americans support marriage equality, and the rest oppose, and the ones who support are generally very open minded and educated about the topic and mostly in the younger age groups. Civil rights are something people have worked hard to maintain over the years, abolishing slavery and treating women equally. Homosexual couples are no different. They deserve to have their civil rights fulfilled, just like women deserve to vote, they should be allowed to get married. Majority of the population against same sex marriage firmly believe the bible statesà that it is unholy for couples of the same gender to marry. In the end same sex couples are really just couples and should be treated as such. They should be allowed the benefits of marriage, treated equally, not like they are inferior, and same sex couples should be allowed their civil rights. What should we do? We should have an open mind, big heart and brain. Donââ¬â¢t spend entire life hating because someone is different, and donââ¬â¢t really understand them. Everyone deserves a chance to love. Ahhh...The Test
Do you ever feel sweat coming from your hands? If you say yes, I bet I know why your hands are sweatingâ⬠¦ itââ¬â¢s the test, isnââ¬â¢t it? I know itââ¬â¢s creepy, but here are ways to help you get good grades on everything you get. You donââ¬â¢t cheat, you practice, and you let your brain do the work, these are the advice I would give you, if you follow them, I hope that you should get a higher grade on your test. The following paragraphs will show you why you should follow my advices. My first advice is you donââ¬â¢t cheat. For example if you cheat, itââ¬â¢s called cheating, and that wonââ¬â¢t help you pass the test, you might pass it, but what is it worth for? You will not understand anything they teach you, so re you cheating them, or are you really cheating yourself? Cheating is bad, because once in a while youââ¬â¢ll get caught by the teacher. Another advice is you practice. For example if you practice youââ¬â¢ll get smarter. And then you can do the test like it is a piece of cake. Have you ever heard the phrase ââ¬Å"Practice makes perfectâ⬠? Well believe in that phrase. It has proved very useful. I strongly believe in that phrase, because if you keep practicing, you will eventually find what kind of mistakes your making, and then youââ¬â¢ll learn to avoid all those mistakes. The last advice is you let your brain do the work. For example since youââ¬â¢ve practiced so hard for it, relax, I mean be nervous a little, but donââ¬â¢t worry too much, relax and have faith in yourself, say this in your head ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m going to ace this test!â⬠. Your brain will speed through the questions as if they were nothing much than a bug. In conclusion donââ¬â¢t cheat, because itââ¬â¢s going to get you nowhere.(except maybe the principleââ¬â¢s office.) Practice, Practice, Practice, because if you donââ¬â¢t youââ¬â¢ll regret it. And let your brain do all the work, because your brain has all the facts you need. Follow these advices, and there will be unlimited possibilities for your future. TRUST ME, when I used all these methods, I got the highest score on the 5th grade math test. And remember this is a secret between you and meâ⬠¦ donââ¬â¢t tell a soul. Good luck on your testâ⬠¦ oh wait, you donââ¬â¢t need luck you have skills on your side, so go ace that test!

Criminology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Criminology - Essay Example This essay is a critical evaluation of the various reasons which contribute to this disparity, laying emphasis on the two different perspectives. As mentioned earlier, the rate of crime perpetrated by males is perceived to be higher as opposed to that of the females. In the US for example, it is estimated that women offenders and arrests constitute approximately 20% whereas the higher majority of offenses are perpetrated by males (Flavin & Barrack 15). In addition, research indicates that these women mostly commit crimes that are of less masculinity such as fraud, prostitution, embezzlement among others, which does not involve much physical confrontation. It is also pointed out that where they commit more serious offenses such as murder and homicide, there is always a high possibility that the victims are well known to them, either by the virtue of being their friends or ex lovers (Flavin & Barrack 25). Male criminals on the other hand are stated to be more likely to commit armed and violent crimes, to people who are strange to them. The gap between the prevalence of crime in the two sexes can be explained in various terms. To begin with, the society has always defined and perceived women as inferior to men. For this purpose, women have always been denied the right and equal opportunity to establish themselves as leaders and managers in the corporate world and the political arena. Instead, they are groomed throughout their childhood and adolescence to become loyal wives and family managers, with the role of domestic work and child rearing being stressed as most significant (Hester 26). As a result, most of them end up becoming solely dependent on their male partners for economical, physical and social protection. The male child on the other hand is exposed to hardships at early stages of growth due to the notion that they are more superior and responsible and therefore, should take the role of establishing themselves as so,
